Five Success Strategies

Rule of Thumb?

While there is no rule of thumb or ‘ten commandments’ on when it comes to becoming successful in life, there are some things you can do and rules you can follow to make your dreams more real. I have been outlined for you some of the most important strategies here.

The Rule Of The Farm

Farmers know it and Jesus taught this to his disciples. “As we sow, so we shall reap”. The principle is that success is not an overnight thing. It’s got nothing to do with nightly prayers (even though that can’t hurt). And it’s got nothing to do with watching others become successful. It’s got to do with consistent work and effort – day in and day out. Farmers tend to their crops every single day without fail, and when the time comes, they reap the benefits from their effort

Success is a lot like that. Continuous and consistent effort makes a world of difference.

No Short Cuts

There are shorter journeys and there are longer journeys, but the harsh truth is that there are no short cuts. The length of the journey is a direct result of the level of commitment and effort you put into becoming successful. The harder you try, the shorter your journey. Attempting short cuts often lead to disappointments. While luck may have something to do with becoming successful, short cuts have nothing to do with success.

Keeping Track

While your mental state is very important if you want to be successful, the things you do (your behaviour) will make a difference too. Write a plan and stick to it so that you can track your efforts. Keep track of the things that you do and your success rate. During this journey, you can fine tune your plan and map out the way you want to go. The better you adapt and change according to circumstance and requirement, the faster you will get to where you want to go.

Stress

Everybody, has to deal with stress whether they like it or not. And if you want to be successful, you’ll have to learn how to deal with stress better. There are two tiers to stress. Firstly, you have to learn how to deal with the daily stress level in your life. And secondly, you have to learn how to channel stress energy somewhere else and turn them around to work for you. After all, stress can be your ally, rather than your enemy. Learn how to turn stress into a motivating factor. Every time you feel stressed, push forward and channel it towards achieving something. Do something useful to achieve your dreams. And most importantly, never waiver from your goal just because you’re stressed.

Staying Positive And Eliminating The Negative

This might seem easier said than done, yet if you start by eliminating negative it may well influence your life. Once the negatives are out of the way, it’s easier for you to become positive. Surround yourself with things that will benefit you, and hang out with positive, successful or success-minded people. Embrace the positive….and let positive things overwhelm and influence you.

Film Making Improves Self-Esteem

Self-worth, or self-esteem, affects every part of our lives. Yet here is perhaps a surprising report of an improvement in self-esteem.

Smoking

It is estimated that in England there are over 2 million fewer adult smokers today than there were a decade ago, yet this year alone it is estimated that around 250,000 more people in England will start smoking. The majority of these will be under the age of 18. Cut Films is a competition-based project that is hoping to reverse the trend by encouraging young people to make films which encouraged their friends and families to stop smoking through innovative and peer-led films.

Film-making Experiment

Piloted in nine schools and one Youth Club between September and November 2009, the project challenges young people to research, write and produce a short film about the dangers of smoking, and then to publish them for other young people to view on You Tube and Facebook via the Cut Films website.

A full evaluation of the pilot phase has recently been published, highlighting a number of positive outcomes. Young people who took part felt that the approach created a strong environment for them to find their own voice on the issue of smoking, and to get the message out to their peers about the consequences of smoking in a creative and relevant way. Some young participants who were reportedly non smokers also suggested that the film making process did help persuade them not to take up smoking.

Teachers involved in Cut Films reported that it provided them with a flexible, effective and user-friendly teaching resource for educating students on the issue of smoking, and without lecturing them.

Improved Self-esteem & Confidence

In addition, many teachers found that the project improved the self-esteem and self-confidence of participants and promoted a high level of engagement from disaffected students.

This has been so successful that they intend to roll it out again next year.

What can we learn from this?

Well, it is clear that the thing that improved self-esteem and self-confidence was the satisfaction of producing a film and having it published. This will have involved much creative effort and I am certain many will be very pleased with their efforts. What is particularly clever about this project is that it gets the young people to research the reasons why they should not smoke.

You can also learn, if you do not know already, that working on a project or hobby can help you to raise your self-esteem. Make a decision to work on a worthwhile project or perhaps to take up a new hobby that will produce something you can be proud of. This will inevitably raise your self-esteem.

To your success,

Bill Webb.

How to Never Fail Again

Fear of Failure

The fear of failure could be the number one problem holding people back from success in all their endeavours. Dealing with the fear of failure may just be the single most important thing you can do to improve your level of success, achieve your dreams and raise your elf-esteem.

When dealing with fear of failure, it is important to first understand that such fears are very common, yet rarely justified. No one likes to fail and if you feel that you have failed repeatedly, can be enough to make some people give up entirely.

Many of the most successful people in the worlds of entertainment, business and politics failed repeatedly before they made it big. It is rare indeed to encounter someone who was a true overnight success in any field. Most people got there through hard work and perseverance, and that means they learned to handle rejection and put their fear of failure aside in order to achieve their goals.

The Opportunity

The first step in conquering a deep felt fear of failure is to take a step back and note that what you thought of as failure is not the end of the road. Just because you failed to achieve your goal today does not mean you will not go on to triumph tomorrow. The key is to learn from every setback, and to treat every failure as an opportunity to learn rather than as a reason to stop trying. Failure is really just a decision that you are no longer prepared to put in the required effort to succeed. Remember that: failure is a decision!

While it is true that you can eliminate your fear of failure by never trying anything new, this will hardly lead to a healthy and fulfilling life. New experiences, whether in the social world, your personal life, or in the business arena are what gives life its spice and spark. Eliminating these important elements of life just because you are afraid, is not the way to a fulfilling life.

A Rewarding Personal Life

Rather, a rewarding personal life lies in seeing failure as a learning experience and perhaps as a temporary setback rather than a permanent condition. If you see failure as permanent, it is easy to become depressed and discouraged. If, on the other hand, you see failure as temporary, and as an opportunity to learn and grow, your fear of failure will be diminished or even eliminated.

Of course, this change is not likely to happen overnight, so you need to keep it in mind. Eventually it boils down to having a positive attitude and knowing that you can succeed. If you don’t believe you can succeeds, then you will not. If you believe you can, then you will take action that will make it happen.

Success

The people you surround yourself with can have a significant impact on your success as well. For instance, if you choose to surround yourself with people who are negative, or those who think they can never succeed, that bad attitude is bound to rub off on you, and make conquering your fear of failure that much harder.

If, on the other hand, you can surround yourself with positive people; those who always expect to succeed, because their attitude will be infectious. A positive attitude is just as easy to spread as a negative one, so try to keep your circle of contacts positive and focused on your goals.

The Real Secret to Losing Weight

The Best Way to Lose Weight

Many people, especially women, have asked me about the best way to lose weight and many of those booked on my weight loss programme. But why does anybody want to lose weight in the first place? Of course, there are plenty of medical reasons for being slim, but at the bottom of most people’s thoughts of losing weight is an unhappiness about how they look. And with every other unhappiness about one’s looks, is lack of self worth; lack of self-esteem.

It seems that almost everyone is looking for the new and greatest secret to fat loss. They drink the juice from weird foreign fruits and try impossible liquid diets in an effort to lose weight. Just so long as they can do it without any effort. I often wonder about the amount of effort that people expend so that they can lose weight ‘without effort’. While it is nice to believe that you can lose weight using one of these methods, it is probably impossible, and sometimes unhealthy too.

The real secret to fat loss, which is much more likely to give you the weight loss that you want, is all about food. To put it simply, you need to eat properly to lose weight. While this may not be what you expect, it is truly the best way to long-term weight loss.

Eating What you Want

Some diets tell you that you can eat whatever you want. They say that as long as you eat smaller portions, you will lose weight. This is an unfortunate assumption, because this is simply untrue. If you have a diet that is full of fats, carbohydrates, and sugars, you are not going to be able to lose weight. Small portions will still take you over your daily calorific intake recommendations.

Hyper-Diets

Attempting to remove all of the ‘bad’ foods from your diet won’t work either. If you completely cut out your favourite unhealthy foods, you are more likely to start binge-eating. This binging can causing you to lose all of the progress that you have made and even finish your diet. All you need to do is add some of your favourite foods into your diet on occasion. By ‘cheating’ like this occasionally, you will find it easier to stick to your diet in the long run.

Make Healthier Choices

Not only do you need to eat, you also need to eat quite a lot. The most important thing to do is to make sure that you are making healthier choices. Don’t deprive yourself of food; instead find foods that you enjoy and that are healthy.

Eat Smaller Meals

If you want to stay at your current weight, eat three large meals a day. If you want to lose weight, then eat 5-7 smaller meals per day. These smaller meals allow your body more time to digest your food and, help you to store less fat from the food that you eat.

Eat Breakfast

Eat breakfast in the morning to kick-start your metabolism earlier in your day. The longer your metabolism is in high gear, the more calories you burn.

Long-term Weight Loss

There are people who constantly try diets that contradict these simple principles. The diets claim to help people to lose weight, but it probably leaves them overweight and disappointed instead. While some diets may induce short-term weight loss, people will easily gain the weight back once they go back to their normal diet.

You simply need to change the way that you eat. These small lifestyle changes will be able to make a big difference in terms of your weight goals. Eating is the fat loss secret that can seriously help you to lose weight. The only way to be successful in the long-term is to take a long-term view. Forget anything that offers a ‘quick’ weight loss solution and go for a slow and sustained weight loss instead. You will be much more successful.

Think about this: when you go on a diet, will you be happy to stay on it for the rest of your life? If not, it is a short-term solution and will not work in the long-term. Although you might use a specific diet for quick weight loss, you must take a long-term view and when you have reached your goal, immediately go onto a long-term diet that will maintain your weigh or body shape where you want it. The usual result of fast weight loss is fast weight gain immediately afterwards. Be prepared for that and remember to take a long term view. Finally, I will say it again, take a long-term view, otherwise how can you expect long-term success?
